Ceramic restorations planned around your smile

Porcelain veneers are custom ceramic restorations bonded to the front of teeth. Planning considers shape, shade and proportion alongside dental health and function.

Before preparation, the proposed changes and alternatives need to be discussed. Your plan should explain what tooth structure would be preserved and what preparation may be required. Results and care needs vary between patients.

It depends on your tooth

Which ceramic is right for you? It depends on your tooth and your bite

Porcelain veneers last longer and stain less than composite veneers, but they are not for everyone: they need healthy enamel, a bite that does not overload them, and a diagnosis beforehand. In studies, between 89% and 97% were still in place at 9 or 10 years, depending on the material.

Healthy teeth, a normal bite, a change of shape and colorFeldspathic ceramic or lithium disilicate: at about 10 years, more than 96% of both were still in place in one meta-analysis.
Having fewer adjustments over the years matters to youLithium disilicate had far fewer technical complications than feldspathic ceramic at about 10 years (6.1% versus 41.5%).
You clench or grind your teethAlways a night guard: among patients with bruxism, the risk of fracture was 7 times higher without a guard.
A tooth that has had a root canalA higher risk of failure with a veneer; depending on how much tooth is left, a crown is considered.
You are offered zirconia veneersThere are only studies at 2.6 years; there is no long-term data.
The preparation would reach dentinRethink the design: veneers bonded only to enamel had 99% survival, and veneers bonded to dentin failed about 10 times more often.

What to discuss

A plan you can understand

01

Shape and shade

Use your own photographs and records to discuss preferences and how the proposed restorations may relate to your smile.

02

Trials and feedback

Ask how the proposal and fit will be reviewed, and when you can share observations.

03

Care afterward

Your plan should include cleaning instructions and reviews. Restorations may need attention or replacement over time.

Common questions

Before you decide

Will my teeth need preparation?

That depends on your case. No-preparation treatment cannot be promised without an examination and clinical plan.

Does a simulation show the exact outcome?

No. It is a planning and communication tool, not a guarantee of the final result.

Can I plan treatment around a trip?

Discuss your availability before booking. Appointments, trials and reviews must follow the requirements of your own plan.
